From intake to settlement
Problem
They sold whole units to a middleman at a flat per-piece rate. Nobody in the chain knew the real PGM content of the material, so every load was priced on assumption. Good months and bad months paid the same.
What we did
Moved them to toll-refining: one consolidated lot, de-canned and homogenised in Leeds, ICP assay with the full result sheet, and the metal price fixed on the day of agreement. A referee sample stayed with them.
Result
The assay showed rhodium content well above the flat rate they had been paid on. They now sort at source and send monthly lots.
